Marshall on Cutler: "I think he's going to try it this week"

LAKE FOREST — Brandon Marshall’s prediction that Jay Cutler would only miss one game seemed ridiculous at first may come to fruition against the Lions.

“I’m representing my guy Jay Cutler,” Marshall said Wednesday, sporting a t-shirt with Cutler on it. “He’s back, the prediction was right. I look like a genius right now.

"... On a serious note, Jay’s on the right track. I think he’s going to try it this week,” Marshall said. “He’s definitely put himself in position to make it out there for Sunday.”

The Bears held meetings and walkthroughs on Wednesday, but if they had practiced, Cutler would have been limited, Marc Trestman said.

“I don’t know where he’s at really. He’s been running around, working out with the trainers. He spent a lot of time on the off day with Bobby, working with bands, redirecting and things like that," Trestman said. "It’ll be day to day and we’ll see more tomorrow. We’re hopeful but we’ve got to be reserved about it as well. We’ll see where things are in the morning when he’ll be evaluated.”

Cutler reiterated on ESPN 1000 Tuesday that he hasn’t practiced yet. “I haven’t been in a live situation and done all the cuts and the drops and saw how it felt yet,” he said. “So I can’t tell you. I wish I could. I wish I could say, ‘Yeah, we’ll be out there.’”

Marshall was very impressed with Josh McCown’s performance in the upset win over the Packers.

“Josh doesn’t have a C on his chest, but he’s definitely one of our captains. Especially from an emotional standpoint, the way he gets guys going,” he said. “I don’t think you can ask for a better No. 2 at the position. His play’s proved that he can play ball.”

Despite McCown's play, there's no question that when Cutler gets the green light, he'll be back as the starter.

“Let’s get the record straight: You can’t replace Jay Cutler,” he said. “Sometimes you have to make plays when there aren’t plays out there, and Jay is one of the best at that.

“… When it comes to Jay, he’s our leader, he’s our captain. How far Jay takes us, that’s how far we’re going to go.
