LAKE FOREST — The Bears activated linebacker Jerry Franklin from the practice squad to the active roster to take the spot of D.J. Williams.
Williams is out for the year with a torn pectoral muscle and was placed on injured reserve.
Franklin, 25, played in three games with the Bears last season and made two tackles. This preseason, he had six tackles on defense, including one for a loss, and an interception. He also had four special-teams tackles.
"We’ve seen [Franklin] since the OTA’s, he’s a young guy, he’s been working, active, and he’ll get some playing time especially on special teams," Marc Trestman said.
Look for Franklin to fill in on the Bears' coverage units in place of Jon Bostic, who will be starting in place of Williams at middle linebacker.
